We'll be leaving KC, MO July 13 to RV the Lewis-Clark Trail through Washington state. Need campground ideas, stories, insights, whatever you have. Much appreciated
pennie_gone: G'morning from Mitchell, S.D. Since you seem pretty interested in Lewis & Clark history, you might want to pull off at the rest stop on I-90 at Chamberlain, S.D., about 60 miles West of Mitchell. Heading West on I-90 it's an easy exit and re-entry to the rest stop and they have an outstanding museum/display of the Lewis & Clark expedition. In addition the rest stop sits high atop the ridge on the East side of the Missouri River, which as you know was the main waterway route followed by the expedition as far as the rockies West of Great Falls, Montana. I purchased a book called Bicycling the Lewis and Clark Trail from Adventure Cycling Association. They also have a set of detailed maps that can be purchased. The nice thing about this is that they take the less traveled roads and follow the Lewis and Clark Trail much more closely than highway maps. I would loan you my book if you would like. They give details of camping and services for bicycling, but would be of interest to anyone traveling the trail. I live in Overland park, ks and you can e-mail if you are interested. rlgoble@everestkc.net
