We are now in LA, in the Bayou Signette State Park outside the big easy. Katrina damage is still very evident everywhere you look. This beautiful park really got hammered, destroying most of the old growth trees. We will be heading into the French quarter tomorrow for a good look around. I want a big hurricane and some ice cold oysters.

Steve,
How are the hookups in that park? We were looking at it for a couple of days in mid May. Did you make reservations in advance? Coming out of Florida with stops in PCola/Biloxi and on to NO. Thanks for the warning OS, we have been told that many times. Locals tell me every other person in the FC is a cop, no worries. Beside I grew up in a big eastern city
Mike, the park is in good shape since Katrina, 50 amp, water, paved sites and a dump station. I would recommend reservations "CampAmerica". The city is great fun and food Steve, Pat, Hakbar, & Root Motor 2007 National RV Pacifica 36' 350 HP Cat C7, Allison 6 spd. 2007 HHR towed, 4 Motor Cycles mixed heritages. We are currently sitting at the French Quarter RV Resort. This is a very nice park and only a couple of blocks away from the French Quarters. They have really good security here and the security people will give you a ride in a golf cart to the Quarters and then pick you up when you return. Very nice staff.
We have really enjoyed the food. Fried oysters, crawfish, Poboys, Gumbo. Darn, now I am hungry. I would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to New Orleans. Having lived in the New Orleans area (metairie) for about 20 years, and having a son who is a Capt. for the Jefferson Pairish Sheriff's Office, I can say this, even tho' it may be a little dated; During the day, most places and sidestreets are safe. Don't trust them at night. A couple of people are a lot safer than a lonely couple or a single.
There aren't that many bad places to eat; easier to ask for the bad places, and then don't go there..... but you are very correct, the food is tremendous, and they have the very best oysters in the world. And, "he deserved killin'" is a valid defense in Louisiana. Bon apetit!! Jim Eddy, Douglas, GA., '03 Alpine 38'FDTS, 350 Cummins '00 Saturn Station Wagon |
