Im going Thurday July3rd for the weekend. The military park has the history of the Revoluitonary War . It only lasted 1 hour . Thomas Jefferson called it "The turn of the tide of success." The battle of Kings Mountain, fought October 7th, 1780, was an important American victory during the Revolutionary War. The battle was the first major patriot victory to occur after the British invasion of Charleston, SC in May 1780. The park preserves the site of this important battle.

There's King's Mountain State Park in York, SC. Water & 20/30 electric.

While you're there you might want to check out Cowpens National Battlefield in Cowpens, SC., just south of Gaffney. From the NPS site:

quote:
The Only Double Envelopment in the American Revolution

“…our success was complete…”
Daniel Morgan to Nathanael Greene, January 19, 1781

A pasturing area at the time of the battle, this Revolutionary War site commemorates the place where Daniel Morgan and his army turned the flanks of Banastre Tarleton's British army. This classic military tactic, known as a double envelopment, was one of only a few in history.

Pine Cone Campground is located in Gaffney, SC., if you want full hook-ups. Water pressure is on the low side. If they have mowed the grass, emptied the dumpster, painted the place, and put the door back up on the Rec Room it's not a a bad place. Big Grin It's not like there are a lot of choices around there. The Kings Mountain National Park is very nice. However, check out the State Campground very closely before getting involved. We intended to spend four days while passing through the area this spring and left two days early.

There is a parking area before entering the camping area, I suggest you park there and walk in. Note: the very narrow roads with sharp turns and trees, the number of planks under camper in attempts to level them and the general condition of the sites and buildings and the water pressure.

Boodocking is one thing but in the deep boondocks is another.
