We are looking to start a conversion this winter using an FL70 truck, we have not purchased one yet. I was wondering peoples thoughts on these trucks and any suggestions regarding transmissions / # of speeds and HP recomendations (obivously more is better but is it needed?) we pull a 35' enclosed trailer with a dirt late model in it. Thanks!

racer
look up FL 70 click on thumb nail picture (I took pic in canada)
you will see one of our FL 70's it's a
1998 9-speed w/250 hp Cat
this truck has 700,000 miles and still runs great. other than the normal wear on parts we couldn't be happier with the service it has given us. We also pull a 20k trailer 70% of the time,
and great fuel mileage at 12-14 mpg. I think the rearend has a 3:55 or 3:70. The noise in the cab is louder than in my KW but you can quiet it down by putting sound profing on the fire wall and under the cab.
If there are more questions fire away.

Thanks Dwayne

My brother recently bought a FL70 which had already been converted to pull a gooseneck trailer. Horse trailer in this case. Since bro' had a 5th wheel he had to convert his 5th wheel to the gooseneck.

His biggest complaint is it only has 6-speed transmission. He has a little trouble on some hills if he doesn't pay attention and get his speed up prior to the hill.

He's looking for a 10-speed to change it out. Thinks this will take care of his problem.
