I changed my insurance from gmac/good sam to aarp/ Hartford the first of the month. I couldn’t believe the savings, almost half the cost. When I was getting the quote over the phone, nothing was said about a new specialty coverage for motor homes. What a pleasant surprise when I got the declaration pages, there was a page explaining the specialty coverage. Best of all it is included in the premium at no extra cost, and it is the same as the good sam or coachnet road service. At least it seems to be. Quote from the page “each time your motor home is disabled, you are guaranteed the cost of towing to the nearest qualified repair facility”. I called to verify that there was no mileage limitation on towing and the answer was no limit. The plan also includes flat tires, lockouts, etc like the others.

Some time back there was another thread on insurance and a poster indicated he was an independent insurance writer and found aarp to be the lowest cost of all. He was sure right, I should of made this move many years ago.

It appears that the older you get, aarp/Hartford is the way to go.

A few years ago AARP/Hartford would not insure a truck over 10,000# GVWR. We had some good savings until we bought the 2002 F350 with a GVWR of 11.500# and they refused to cover it and would not prorate the policy on my wife's car or extend the multiple car discount when we had to get the truck insured else where.

They never had a reasonable explanation of why the underwriters would not accept the truck. I went to an independent agent and he placed the same truck through Hartford and had no problem.

I guess the AARP/Hartford alliance just does not want older folks driving big trucks.

Something must have changed then. I've had AARP/Hartford for 7 or 8 years on my car and pickup. A couple of years ago when my exsisting motorhome was about to expire I called them and asked what kind of price could they give me to insure my motorhome, expecting a good deal, but instead the answer was we don't insure motorhomes.

They may not want "older folks" driving big trucks. but they don't seem to mind this old (78 Big Hand ) timer driving a motor home. By the replies I've seen on this thread and the "other" site, they must have changed their policy.

I used AARP Hartford for our motorhome in 2000-2001 (and also the family cars & F250 pick-up truck) but switched the motorhome over to National Interstate when we bought a new one in 2002. Hartford did not at that time offer Full Replacement Coverage and I wanted that on a new coach. National included it for the same premium I would have payed to Hartford.

The AARP/Hartford motorhome policy is an excellent one in both price and coverage - get a quote if you are an AARP member (or over 55 and willing to join AARP).

We had AARP/Hartford for 9 years until this year. They wanted $3000 to insure my 3 vehicles. Did some comparisons and changed to another insurer via independent agent for about half AARP's, and got better coverage.

I called AARP Hartford two days ago and ask for a quote on my motorhome. I have my auto insured with them. They told me they could not give a quote in Texas that they would have to write the policy starting imediately and in 30 days I would find out how much it was. I ask what if I didn't like the price and they said I could cancel and pay for the 30 days. I told them I didn't think so.
