We are at Artillery Ridge CG, Gettysburg, PA. The water pressure is low. When this happens I use the coach tank and pump help the CG PSI. The CG water pressure is around 20-25 PSI. When I turned on the pump, the pump would run for a few seconds about every 15 seconds. The bottom line is I turned off the CG water and the pump no longer ran in the short bursts. Turned the CG water back on and the pump continued to run for a few seconds about every 15 seconds. Me thinks the CG PSI is strong enough to open the coach check valve but below the PSI that turns the pump on. The coach pump comes on and raises the PSI enough to close the coach check valve and the pump turns off.

Has this happenned to anybody? It is a first time for me.

If the CG doesn't have a backflow preventer on it's spigot and since most RV pumps are at least 40+PSI seems you would be the Hero of the CG for building it’s pressure. Why not put your pressure gage on the CG spigot with water pump on and off readings to be sure.

We are in the same CG, Site # 48. We have not had any problem with the water pressure at all over here. Could be the water run you are on.

When you run off your tank is the switch at the fill switched from fill to normal?

I would suspect that the check valve on your water inlet might be leaking slightly.

Try this test:

Disconnect the water hose from your rig's water connection but don't replace any cover ot cap it may have. Then pressurize your water system with your pump. Go back outside and watch to see if any water starts dripping out of the inlet. If it does, the check valve is leaking and, eventually, your pump will kick on momentarily to repressurize the line; the same as what you're experiencing with the hose connected.

However, you might not see any water at all coming from the water inlet which means the check valve is OK. If this is the case, then I'd have to say that there is just enough water pressure from the campground's water line to reduce the effectiveness of the spring that holds the check valve closed (remember! in my test, there would be no pressure on the connection side), thus allowing the higher pressure water in your rig to slowly backflow into the hose.

We were at a CG in Boise, ID. Everytime they were watering the lawns the pressure would go down to nothing and we had to run our pump and use the water from our tanks. I'm glad we had just finished adding water to the tank a couple of days beforehand.

Thanks for all the replies. The problem is definately the CG. I went to see Mike. Even though he is only 3 numerical sites from me, he is accross the main CG roadway. Our water may come from a different leg in the supply system.

You may not have great water pressure but at least you have a level site. Takes us 2 ladders and a knotted rope to get in and out of the coach

This is one of several reasons I keep water in the holding tank once we get set up in a new campground. You never know when they will loose their water. Also have a good whole house filter so if a line was repaired and had dirt in it the filter will catch it and keep it out of the coach and other finer filters.

Yup, your right on the money with that last post. We've had parks that had to have water pumps repaired and our own water tank saved us often. It's nice to be self contained as long as you do keep some water along for the ride and stay. I also have two filters that keep out the junk before the water enters the motorhome.

Logically such a happening cannot occur. If the CG water pressure is higher than your onboard pump low pressure cut-in, the pump will never run. If the CG pressure is lower than the coach pressure the check valve will never open. A faulty check valve or other small leak is likely.
