Wow, just traded in a 2007 Coachmen Chaparral for a 2008 Cypress! Love the coach, but having some odor issues. Seems like when we move the coach or use the fantastic fans we get odor in the toilet closet, YUK!!! Can really be a downer. Does anyone else have that problem. We have checked all the vents. The odor originates in the toilet closet but will fill the living areas quickly. I have never been a member of a forum before nor do I have much experience with a fifth wheel. So much to learn. Can use all the advice I can get New Here

Take the toilet up and see if there is a "donut" gasket around the drain from the toilet to the tank. If so make sure its low enough when you re-seat the toilet that there is no gap in the donut. If you do not have this kind of toilet, pull it up anyway and ck it out and see if you can see where the "smell" might be coming from. s/Toby

with a 208 unit, I assume there is a warranty period. Take it to the dealer and explain the problem. Now is a good time to find out if your dealer is a good one or other wise. It is probably the toilet, but could be a vent pipe. The fantastic fan pulls a vacuum and sucks the odor in. That should not happen.

There is a one-year warranty period and Newmar has been great with us on covering problems with two rigs we have owned.

BTW, welcome to IRV2 and keep us posted.

Just a quick question. Do you leave water in the bowl?

One problem I've encountered in the summer is the heat evaporating the water out of the black tank. If the black tank goes dry you will get some nasty odors out of the toilet. I always make sure now to run about ten gallons of fresh water into the tank prior to letting it sit for any length of time. I also go out at least bi-weekly and flush the toilets, as well as running water in each sink as well as the shower. If the P traps go dry you can get some nasty odors from the sinks too.

I finally fixed mine by replacing the toilet. I think there is a vac breaker in the toilet somewhere that may allow gas in. I didnt like the cheapo one that came and bought a china one.
