I see a lot of info about surge protectors but the question that asked at one point either has not been answered or I can't find it.

My rig is 50 amps. Sometimes I hit park that only has 30 amps so I use my 50 to 30 amp pigtail. My question is using this scenario can I still use my 50 surge protector.

In thinking about it I am not sure how I would do it as my pigtail is round and plugs into the trailer with a female 30 plug on the other that the 30 amp chord plugs into. My surge protector only accepts 50 amp female plug. I just looked at camping world and don't see anything that would work.

So now my first question still is looking for an answer and assuming the answer is yes then has anybody have any ideas on how I can make it work.

My 50 amp surge protector has a 50 amp (4 pin) male connector on a short cord that plugs into the shore power outlet. On the face of the surge protector is a 50 amp female receptacle that the 50 amp cord from the 5th wheel plugs into.

From that perspective, my 50 amp surge protector is no different than a standard 50 amp power cord and would plug straight into a 30 amp male/50 amp female dogbone adapter.

Now, a 30-to-50 adapter bridges the 2 each hot legs of the 50 amp service and powers both from the single hot leg of the 30 amp service. It would depend on your 50 amp surge protector as to whether or not it will accept the 2 each hot legs being in phase - i.e., a voltmeter placed between the 50 amp buses will read 0 VAC with the 30-to-50 adapter as opposed to 240 VAC with true 50 amp service.

my built in SURGE guard shows on the display when we plug into 30 amp service both legs of line along with amps, it still protects teh coach and wiring as it does when we plug in to 50 amps

My hard wired Surge Guard works when I plug into 30 amp service. I use the 30 amp to 50 amp adapter at the park service connection.

I have a dog bone with a 30 amp male end to plug into shore power post, and the other end is a 50 amp female. Works great with my progressive surge protector.
