Hi all,
We have a 1 year old and am wanting to let him sleep in one of the bunk beds in the back of our camper, the opening for the bunk area is only about 2' wide because the bathroom wall covers up the rest of the area. what would be the best way to keep him in his bunk at nite so he doesn't fall out. 2007 Emerald Bay 31' TREB Travel Trailer 2004 Dodge Ram HemiSport (My Toy and Tow Beast) 2004 Mazda 3 (Wifes Toy) Camping Crew (Vardanian Family) Luke (Me- Proud Husband/Dad) Erika (Awesome Wife/Mom) Aidan (First Son - Born 6/9/2007) Tobbie (Schnoodle 15 Lbs of all Shaggy dog) Zoey (Mini Schnauzer 12 lbs of Trouble) Molly (Yorkie) |

Well, Super Glue would work, that is until he learns to wiggle out of his clothes, but I think some kind of a web material using velcro to hold it in place would work well and also allow for air circulation.

Hello Luke,
We ran into the same problem with our two year old last year. We bought a bed rail from Babies R' Us and used that. The one we bought has a nice soft webbing and we were able to secure it pretty easily with the straps that came with it. It was a bit long for the opening, but we just tucked the excess between the mattress and the bathroom wall. You can probably find them at any childrens store or do a search online. If I get a chance, I'll take some pictures and post them. 2002 Suburban 2500 8.1 Liter 2002 KZ Sportmans 2703P Reese HD Dual Cam |

You might also check into those nets people use instead of tailgates on pickup trucks.

Our son used to roll out of the bunk. We rolled up a beach towel and placed it under the edge of the matress at the opening. It kept him on the bunk. Hope this helps.

I don't know if you are "handy" with wood... I am certainly not but this is how is corralled my son:
Four pieces of 3/4 plywood (It could be thinner, I just happened to have some lying around.) Two pieces the width of the mattress and two pieces how ever long you want it. The two shorter end pieces should also be shorter in height to account for the thickness of the matress and allow the longer sides to rest on the mattress base. I then cut a number of "slots" in the plywood about 2" wide or so. Using a round over bit on a router I smoothed all the edges, including the slots. Sanding won't hurt it either and might save a splinter. To assemble, just put the longer pieces on each side and the shorter ones on the ends of the longer ones to make a box. The end pieces rest on the mattress, as noted, the side pieces rest on the mattress base. It is quite stable. I just brought a supply of zip-ties and put it together each nite. Only takes a couple of minutes. When the plywood is stacked, it takes very little room. I did paint mine with kid proof paint. It's a quick project that is dirt cheap. I still have mine somewhere in case grandkids happen someday. |
