Hi everyone.
I just found a problem with my slideout last night. I went to move it out and all it did was make a ratcheting sound. It is the same sound it makes when you have reached the end of its travel when bringing it in. The motor works fine, but it just doesn't move out. This is an all season trailer so I can't easily see the mechanism. Should I drop the underbelly insulation and have a look there, or is there an easier way to go at it. I had a friend that had that problem from time to time. It was a shear pin on the gear.

Check to see if your 5er has a 2'x2' hatch below each drive motor, mine does. Removing the hatch allows access to everything replaceable.
The rachet cogs may have the corners rounded off, permitting constant racheting. You can download a slide-out service manual here. They offer the most common brands. I ended up putting a socket on the manual crank and turning about 1/2 turn. Now it works just fine. Maybe it was just stuck

Good catch ! I'm writing that in my little notebook of things to try when problems happen. Of course someday a problem will happen and I will not be able to find the notebook.
