HI! I just purchased a freightliner HDT, and was wondering about insurance. Does anybody have a good company that would insure one of these? I checked into a few and was wondering who everbody else is using. Any help would be great. This site is also very helpful and full of info!!! Keep up the goood work! Thanks Eddie

Some of use Farm & City Insurance Services
1-800-331-1520...Ask for Trese Hallet or
Twyla Stenzel
They do require that both the HDT and 5er are insured with them
We are insured with this company and other HDTers are with some others.
You can also check with Escapees web site....alot of information there also on different subjects.

You should give Farm and City a call. Seems they have been able to get it done. I have mine with them and one with Nationwide as well.

Here's a few to choose from.

BTW, I use Farm and City and I recomend talking to Trese Hallet....................

Insurance Providers:

There are a number of Insurance Companies that are willing to insure an HDT that has been
converted and re-licensed as an RV.

Here's a short list of the more widely used companies.

A. Farm & City Insurance Service
P.O. Box 248
Forest City, Iowa - 50436
Phone: 800-331-1520
Ask to speak with Trese Hallet or in her absence ask to speak with Twyla Stenzel.

Quite a few HDT owners are insured with Progressive Insurance Company or National
Interstate Insurance Specialists through Farm & City Insurance Service.

B. Garden City Insurance
2910 S. Reserve Street #C
Missoula, Montana - 59801
Phone: 1-866-444-1084 - Fax: 1-406-549-8527 - eMail: info@gardencityins.com
Ask to speak with Keith Nelson or in his absence ask to speak with Leslie Nelson

Garden City is well versed in insuring HDT's that are registered through Montana LLC's.

C. Thum Insurance Agency
3310 Eagle Park Dr NE - Suite 210
Grand Rapids, MI - 49525-4574
Phone: 616-957-2400 - Toll Free: 800-866-0777 - Fax: 616-957-1204
Ask to speak with Melissa Thum

Thum Insurance Agency specializes in all types of RV and water craft insurance.

D. AIS Insurance Agency Inc.
c/o Aon Recreation Insurance
2600 116th Avenue NE Suite 200
Bellevue, WA - 98004
Phone: 800-521-2942

E. USAA
P.O. Box 659464
San Antonio, TX - 78265
Phone: 800-531-8080

There was a recent thread about using USAA that can be reached through This Link. The downside
to using USAA is that you have to qualify before you can get your conversion insured through
USAA. There are basically three ways you can qualify with USAA: If your parents are members, you
are a member of the military (active or reserve) or if you separated from the military since January
2005.

F. Miller Insurance Agency
5805 SW Willow Lane
Lake Oswego, Oregon - 97035-5342
Phone: 800-622-6347 - Fax: 503-699-9348 - eMail: info@MillerRvInsurance.com
Ask to speak with Cheryl Miller

G. Destination Insurance Services
323 West Pine Street
Missoula, MT 59802
Phone: 800-270-1479 - Fax: 406-721-3032 - eMail: info@destinationfinancial.com
Ask to speak with Lexi Johnson or Robin Green

H. Marsh Insurance
7251 West Lake Mead Boulevard Suite 401
Las Vegas, NV 89128
Phone: 800-814-5500 Ext. 7259 - Fax: 866-627-7439 - eMail: janice.fleming@marsh.com
Ask to speak with Janice Fleming

30 Day Interim Trip Insurance:

If you need interim trip insurance to cover your new HDT while in transit from the selling dealer to
your home town call this number "1-800-444-0077 X 200".

My selling dealer "Gatr Volvo" in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota provided me with the number when I
purchased my 770 and said they are a good alternative insurance source for those looking for
quick interim insurance coverage.

Heet,
Like many others, I am insured through Farm & City, although my independent agent spent over an hour calling all his resources first. The best he came up with was a "maybe, if the conversion was professionally done". After I told him of the postings that I had read on the Escapees forum, he called Farm & City himself, put his phone on speaker, and participated in getting it arranged even though it meant pulling the camper away from him. Be aware, though, that you'll be questioned thoroughly about exactly how you intend to use it once it is converted. Even a hint of trying to do anything for profit with it will put you under a commercial policy, instead of the inexpensive RV coverage. The agents know what they are doing. BTW, Treese, an employee in the RV division there, explained that there are at least four other agents there that can handle this, you don't have to ask for her specifically. I told her that I would pass that on...

As HD_RIDER mentioned, by no means do you have to deal directly with Trese but take my word for it that she is a notch or two above the rest when it comes to knowing the in's and out's about insuring our rigs.......
