We were heading up to Yosemite from Bishop CA and stopped off at Mono Lake. The town of Lee Vining is a quaint little mountain town that has a few different full service RV Parks.
The main attraction, other than the turn off for the Tioga Pass is Mono Lake. This beautiful mountain like is quite the oddity as it's 2.5x's saltier than the ocean. The only living thing in the lake is a type of brine shrimp that grows by the million in the salty water. We never knew there was a shrimping industry in the Sierra Mountains of Northern California. The main attraction of Mono Lake, beside the turquoise waters surrounded by snow capped peaks, are the tufa formations that line the edges of the lake. These formations happen when the natural fresh water springs mix with the salty lake water. The two clash and form these crazy stlagmite looking things. This whole area is amazing when it comes to photography, and anyone RVing through this area should make sure to bring lots of memory for their cameras A full gallery of the Mono Lake Tufa's can be seen Here Enjoy Pat & Cindy Bonish This message has been edited. We love the Mono lake area and make at least one trip a year up there, so many things to do and see. I hope you made to Bodie the ghost town close by. Here's a link Bodie

Highway 395 between Reno and Mojave is one of our favorite routes and provides many great photographic spots. One should consider plenty of 'FILM" too, isn't that why they put the refrigerators in RVs? A couple other great spots along this highway: The White Mountains (ancient Bristle Cone Pines); Alabama Hills (where many western movies were filmed and there are great rock formations); Death Valley; Mammoth Lakes; Cat: Ani Staff: Wally and Wendy Hampton 2008 Monaco Monarch 30' SFS on a Workhorse chassis 2005 Liquid Yellow Mini Cooper S |
