Under the RV, on the front side of the fresh water tank metal box, I had an access panel (about 12"x12"). After removing the panel and removing a piece of styrofoam insulation, I had access to a corner of the tank. My tank was actually 16" high, but because of the tank shape I only had room for one sensor strip (12"). This means that When the tank reads empty I will still have some water and when the tank reads full I can still ad more water--saved $60 on an additional sensor and didn't have to cut any insulation or metal. Anyone interested in details, email me or give me a call (2530549-2044).

I wish I would have taken a picture of the fresh water tank with the access panel removed. Just like Roy described, when you remove the panel, you'll see the corner of the freshwater tank. Because of the configuration of the tank drain and feedlines, it was tough to get one solid surface where I could install the sensors in a complete vertical line from the top of the tank to the bottom. Since I did have two sensors, I installed one on the front of the tank clear to the bottom by removing a bit of the thinkness of the styrofoam. The second sensor I mounted above the drain valve so it's actually on a different surface of the tank, but at the same level.

Maybe take a picture inside the tank access panel when you take it apart and post it.

Joe, if I am understanding you correctly, you have one sensor strip mounted 'bottom up' on the front of the tank and a second on the side of the tank...but you trimmed one strip so that the total length of the two strips does not exceed the height of the tank?? From the directions, I would get the impression that a multiple strip installation requires both strips to be on the same surface, one immediately above the other.

I think I'm confused.

I do have two sensor strips cut to length. If I recall correctly the total height of the tank was close 18-19 inches but due to the curve at the top and bottom edges of the tank I'm pretty sure I cut the sensors to be 9 and 7.5 inches respectivly. The sensors are cut in 1-1/2 increments to whatever height you need and can be stacked in combination to cover a larger height tank.

I did mount my sensors on two different surfaces of the tank. The drawing below sort of represents what the tank shape looks like on the 36G. The view would be looking straight down at the tank from the top.

The reason I mounted the two sensors on different surfaces is that on our rig, I did not have one clear vertical surface that I could reach from the top or bottom. The surface where I mounted the top sensor has the drain valve located towards the bottom of the tank. The surface where I mounted the bottom sensor is the one where I removed about 1/2 inch of thinkness of the styrofoam insulation. The insullation is probably 1-1/2 inches think so a reduction of thickness didn't seem an issue.

The only reason I didn't install the top sensor above the bottom sensor is that reaching the area above the bottom sensor would have been difficult through the 12" access pannel. In installed the top sensor from the storage compartment reaching it down to the water tank.

Although the instructions describe stacking sensors on top of each other, they can be installed on top of each other but actually on different surfaces. When I called Garnet to confirm the way I intended to install them, their only cautions were to be sure to maintain the 1/8 to 1/4 inch distance between the sensors height. In this way, the liquid level won't be on both sensors at the same time.

Just to add to Joe-K's post, I mounted a single sensor on the wall in the tank inbetween where Joe mounted his. As I mentioned before, I lose a little sensor input on the top and bottom of the tank. I wasn't clever enough to figure out the two wall setup.

Joe and Flyer:

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I am finally getting to finish up this install today. Once I removed the access panel and the metal shield in the compartment just above the tank, it becomes obvious how to do this. The Black/Grey/LP indicator is working fine...just need to finish up the fresh water tank deal.

I will take a few pics of the tank with the panel removed for anyone who might want to do this install.

Is there any way to access the fresh water tank of the Horizon/Vectra? At the Winnie Visitor's Center there is an exact sister chassis to mine (40AD) and while they don't have the tanks mounted in the demo chassis, they do point out where they are located. The water tank is between the frame rails and it doesn't appear there is any easy access to the tank side Sad .
