I just finished installing my system a couple of weeks ago, but used the existing wiring. I built an aluminum box which fits over the old indicators and holds the new indicator panel. I removed one of the push switches to provide a hole for the wires. The old system is not visible or usable. The gray, black and fresh water sensor wires are tied together at the new panel. Everything is simple except for mounting the fresh water sensors. I do not have a monitor in the dump area yet. Joe has described the installation and its problems extremely well. I had an out-of-box failure for one of the fresh water sensors it was replaced by Garnet in a very timely matter.

I like the Sea Level system but 2005 and later Winnebago products come with external sensors. Mine have worked extremely well but I only have the MT 1/3 2/3 FULL indications.

Joe K: Outstanding feature, you should contact Motorhome Magazine and publish the article.

Wayne: You refered to an aluminum box that fits over the old panel. Is this a trim piece or a fabricated box? I'm planning to install the same system, not sure if I'll build a new backing board like Joe or use your idea. Thanks guys...

Gary

It is a self fabricated aluminum box. For my previous MH, I made one out of laminate flooring material. It works just as good and a lot easier to work with. Nice looking and matched the floor also.

Joe,

Thanks for the explanation on the LP tank sensor. Yes, I do understand the issue of the 80% / 100%. I would calibrate the gauge to read 100% just so someone else would not be confused in the future. Many people do not really know that an PL tank can only be filled to 80% capacity nor should they have to.

AS someone here posted, you should look into publishing this. It is well done and through.

I am just trying to figure where I can put the display unit on my One Place Panel. Cute

We had talked earlier about the LPG tank sendor and the interface of the SeeLevel with that existing sendor. The issue of the LP tank being "full" when filled to 80 percent of it's capacity and how that was reflected on the SeeLevel display was still a question in my mind.

There were still some questions in my mind so I emailed Garnet Industries with teh question and a link to this discussion and received back an email with a note on LPG calibration.

Garnet states that:
1.If you recalibrate with the tank at 80% full it will read 100% but when the tank is empty the SeeLevel will indicate 20% full.

2. The recommended procedure is to remove the two screws on the tank indicator and with a magnet, move the gauge to read 100% and then calibrate it as per the manuals instructions. These consoles are calibrated to a published standard by Rochestor Gauge Co.at our factory. I would only recalibrate if a signifigant error is noticed.

3. The actual way the LPG sender at the tank operates is on Ohm values. 110 ohms = full 100% and 90 ohms= 80% full.

So it sounds to me like the intent is to allow the Garnet display to read 80 percent when the tank is filled to 80 percent of it's capacity. In this way, when the tank is empty it will read 0 percent. In the event the display does need calibrated, the mechanical gauge is manually moved to read 100 percent then calibrate it and then allow it to move back to the actual reading.

I installed the SeeLevel on my coach last month. I bought the one with the water heater and fresh water pump switches. I was doing good until I realized the fresh water pump switch is SPST, the switch in my '99 is SPDT. I called Garnet and he sent me a freebie!
The installation was fairly simple except my Gray water tank is under the bathtub, only accessible by going underneath with the slide extended and removing 2 panels with about 50 screws, it was sealed on with Butyl sealant.
It is great to look at a gauge that makes sense.

Just finished installing the SeeLevel II. It was as easy as advertised. Just took a little time and thought. Got lots of help from the forum. The neatest part of the install was the box I found at Home Depot to mount the panel on. It is a WIREMOLD ON-WALL OUTLET BOX (BW2). It fit right over the existing guages and the opening was exactly the right size for the SeeLevel panel. Hopefully the link will show the pics of the final install.

Flyer:

Thanks for the tip on the box. I have installed the See Level panel in my outside bay and had made a wooden box to mount the inside panel. I believe your set up looks better so will head to HD.

I haven't yet installed the strips on my fresh water tank. Joe K said some insulation needed to be removed.

Flyer,

Nice job with the mounting box. It's amazing what one can come up with wandering the isles of the local Home Depot. Great idea with the box.

To add a little postscript to my installation, this past weekend I had the first opportunity to camp with the SeeLevel. Conclusion...I like it. Having that external display was really nice when flushing the black tank, then prefilling it with water using the flusher.

I never used to know how much water to put in the black tank so I always used to have someone inside fill and flush the toilet a fixed number of times. Now it's super easy by just using the black tank flusher to fill it to a certain percentage.
