Today is Monday and here we set in Georgia. The clubhouse amd office are closed at 6tpm. There were about 100 campers her over the 4th but at this time I can count 12 in the campground. I was think if this is the way it is for full timing during the summer, it might not be worth the effort of going North. I read that the REAL snowbirds (winter folks) have potluck dinners, dances, workshops and all kinds of stuff during the winter but the summer seams to escape us. The campgrounds look empty except for weekenders. I would like to find the same thing the snowbirds have but as a summerbird. I live in Florida so don't have to leave during the winter but the summers would be nice to travel, and mingle with others. any siggestions.

A lot of the snowbirds that go to florida have homes in the north that they go home to.

We took the M/H down to Key West ,FL for 5 weeks. Lots of snowbirds and lots of people from South America they sure know how to have a great time.Even the local police were having a fun time.
I am planning of buying a Rv site in the Keys.

The snowbirds that don't have a house and are fulltime in their rigs rarely spend more then a week in one place in the summer. Although some will get summer jobs and are not likely to have time for get togethers.

I think there are Summerbirds trying to escape hot climates in summer just the way there are Snowbirds who are trying to escape cold weather in winter. I think the difference is the Snowbirds are more concentrated and therefore have more opportunity to have organized activities. There are only so many places that have decent weather in winter.

Summerbirds are more scattered. There are loads of places to go in summer where it is not opressively hot. There are many campgrounds in the north where there are many seasonal campers. These people get to know each other and have the type of activities you describe. The only difference is, they are mostly locals and they show up mostly on weekends as you say.

We spend 8 months in Slab City and the rest of the year at a ranch/CG we bought into in the high desert of Oregon. We have the events you mention and we're only a couple of miles from Bend for shopping, restaurants, entertainment, etc. Weather is great for the next 2 months, then we head to Arizona and check it out for a month.

I'm like you. I like orginized activities. We were surprised this July 4th weekend. We, along with friends, camped the weekend at the Brickyard Golf and RV Park just outside of Americus Georgia. Out intent was to play a little golf ($15 including cart). However, when we got there we found out the owners planned a catered bar-b-que for everyone. In addition they had about 15 or 20 musicians who played bluegrass. They were good enough to play professional and they played every evening thru Sunday. The following night they had a hamberger/hotdog cookout with all the trimmings for the guest. In addition, they have a fishing pond with lots of bass and bream( C & R ). I must have caught at least a dozen bass up to 4lbs right behind the motorhome. Really nice folks. We took a side trip to Andersonville ( 15 mile) which was quite interesting. (Yankee prison camp during the Civil War). All this for only $15 a night. They are a PPA member. The owner plays bluegrass also, I think that had something to do with the players getting together. s/Toby
