Having been the CFO of a Fortune 500 company, don't believe every thing you read. You might want to check EDGAR. Accrual accounting is a wonderful tool.

I always thought profit was a nice word. It seems to have become dirty word lately. I love for the big corporations to make money and then give it to their shareholders (that would be me.) I know Exxon has taken a lot of heat, but they paid 3 times as much in taxes as they made in profit last year. None of the American “Big Oil” is in the top 10 of the world’s oil companies and we have seen our domestic production drop off 50 % in the last 30 years and now stands at about 5% of the daily crude production. Some people on capitol hill think they actually control the market price of crude. At 5%, not hardly. “Big Oil” has been emasculated By congress and today I see that the speaker of the house calls the oil shortage a “hoax” and will not be allowing the energy bill to a vote until after the election. Enough Democrat congress men decided to vote to allow more drilling after the July 4th recess at home with the voters to allow it’s passage which would probably have dropped the price of fuel and raised the stock market which would have been perceived as a favorable thing to the republicans. We live in a great county.

Call Ms. Pelousi at 202-225-0100 and ask her to bring the drilling bill to the floor.

I imagine that if you dig into it the "esteemed" senators who have magically seen the light are up for re-election this Nov. They will be a minority and nothing will get passed as they and their media buddies want the public to be in as much misery as possible come election day.
Agree with Lindsay Richards, isn't profit what a capitalistic society is built on. These bleeding hearts and unions can't seem to understand that big business' were once small business'. Some one had an idea, invested his and or some risk taking backers money and put in a lot of hard work for very little pay to get the thing off the ground. Where's the bailout for those business ventures that don't make it because they ran out of finances before the product got off the ground or somebody had a better idea?
When the government employs more people than private enterprise you've got a serious problem and we're very near that right now.

Think of the money we could save if we cut the number of congress persons in half and limited their staffs to three people.

And cut their maximum income/year to $150,000 and made them divest themselves of all investments to a committee of citizens. Three terms for reps and 2 for senators.

Congress is nothing more than a lobbyist/criminal enterprise training center anyway.

Thumbs Up That is exactly why we need term limits. Congress has a 9 percent approval rating. Example: You can actually serve in the military, even possibly die for your country, but there are still active duty term limits. We even have term limits for the President of the United States. Why not have term limits for our politicans in the house and senate. Whip Doc
