We will be picking up our new Dodge 3500 in a few days. The trip to get the fiver and hitch work done is 1100 miles and we will be carrying a truck bed full of stuff. Would like to keep the stuff safe and dry so I am thinking of a folding tonneau cover. Bak or Extang(hard, folding types)seem to fit the bill but I am concerned with the height of the hitch contacting the cover. Since I am new at this and don't have any idea of the hitch height (Air Safe or Trailer Saver)I need some advice.

Gary,

I have an F350 with a soft tonneau cover that I used hauling a fifth wheel. It goes over the hitch no problem. When we were hauling the fifth wheel we just rolled it up towards the cab, It had holders that snapped into place so it could not unroll. Hope that helps.

I use a rolltop cover and the hitch clears fine. I have to tilt the hitch a bit so that the handle clears.

As part of the deal I got the Dodge branded (actually a Fold-A-Cove). This is my second one and am totally satisfied with their performance. Almost totally water proof, folds up in seconds and best of all I can leave the hitch installed. When I get unhitched I simply unfold it, and lock it in place. Now I have a secure 4X8 foot place to store all sorts of stuff.

Like Don, we also have a Fold-A-Cover and have been very happy with it. Once folded back, it doesn't interfer with the hitch or the fiver at all.

I bought a Bak Flip folding hard cover from autoanything.com for my 05 F350 and was very impressed with it. I only had it for a month when I rolled the truck in a blizzard wind storm. It kept the load in the box and even looked unharmed after the roll. The truck was a write off and I intend on getting another bak flip for my 08 Siverado.
