I saw GM's prototype for the 2010 Suburban with the new 4.5 liter Duramax diesel today at the RV Trade Show in Louisville. Great looking vehicle and should be a terrific candidate for a tow vehicle for members pulling travel trailers. I took a bunch of photo's, here's 4 of them:

I've read that GM has severed ties with Izuzu, and will begin making thier own Duramax engines. Is that true?

Ray,

I spoke to the GM rep that was there with the 4.5 Duramax at the show, he did say it wasn't being made in the same plant in Moraine, OH as the 6.6 is. But I didn't ask anything about severing ties with Isuzu, maybe someone else will jump in here who knows for certain.

Anyone

Regards,
Richard

This one was actually developed completely by GM, and presumably they just call it a Duramax because of name recognition, even though it wasn't developed with Isuzu. I think they're going to be manufactured in New York, some place called Tonawonda or something like that.

4.5L? Should be enough to get the burb down the road with 4 or 5 people on board, but I sure would not want to hook any sort of trailer to it Frown

I could see Chevy using the 4.5 in a 1/2 ton Suburban, but if I were buying a 3/4 ton, I'd sure want the 6.6 Duramax.

WOW! Richard, those are impressive stats. I did find out GM owns the rights to the Duramax name. That is now two entries into the U.S. small diesel engine arena, Cummins is the other.

That's about the same stats as the first generation LB7 6.6l Duramax. Impressive.
