I have a 2004 gmc 1500 series with z71 package and I am looking at a 25ft tahoe lite 5er.It weighs 4300# dry.My truck has 4x4 and a 4.8l engine .Anybody with similar hookups and does it work? Thanks, I'm new to this.

I towed a 24ft fiver with a 1/2 ton 4x4,weight was about the same as your looking at.It worked ok but I believe that a 3/4 ton truck FEELS better. If you have trailer package(heavy cooling etc.)you should be fine-just don't overload the trailer.

Thanks RichR. I really like the trailer but I don't want to make a purchase that I won't be comfortable towing. It will be the biggest setup I ever had.

I've decided against the fifth wheel purchase. It may be borderline weight issue and I don't want to be stuck with something i'll regret. With the price of fuel and all I think I'll stick to our cabin for this summer.

With the 4.8L, I'd look for a bumper pull travel trailer (TT). And I'd want the 4.10 axle as a minimum.
Pulling a TT you will see mpg number around 7 to maybe 9 mpg. You might want to look at pop ups to help on the MPG. ken KE5DFR Vintage 1979 Silver streak and a 2002 7.3L Crew Cab Dually w/ a SCMT, Jordan Ultima 2020 brake controller and a Reese Dual Cam HP hitch. Ryaner,
I had a 2000 GMC Z71 w/ the 4.8L and it did fine towing a 25ft ultra lite Rockwood TT. We traded that on a 28ft TT that weighed 5600 empty and had to keep it in 3rd to maintain speed. With the added wind resistance of a 5er, I think you would be disappointed. With a lightweight TT, you would be fine. I had a 99 GMC Z71 with the 5.3 engine. I towed a 30 Trail Lite. It did ok but when I traded it in on a 03 diesel it was a different world towing.

When *was* the last time you saw someone pulling a TT off their bumper? Just curious.

Use this weight calculator
to safely and accurately match your pickup to a trailer. Note-never use the dry weight/uvw, when matching a tow vehicle to a trailer. You are never going to pull it while camping at that weight.Use only the trailer GVW, as that calculator states. Juggler, Today____. This message has been edited. That is just a figure of speach. i think we all know that the TT is hooked to a receiver connected to the frame. Although I have seen some folks towing a small trailer with brush to the dump using a ball on the bumper -------------------- John & Joyce and Libby the Yellow Lab. 2005 Kountry Star FW-35LKSA by Newmar.
