My 2001 Wilderness has a Dometic refrigerator that has quit. As with most things, it worked fine until it quit. I'd not used the camper for a couple months and had left the refrigerator off with the doors open. When I turned it back on, no cooling. It's never been operated out of level, the electrics are fine and the heater works well but there is some yellow residue in the burner compartment so it appears the cooling unit is shot. What is the best option since I plan to keep this camper for the next two years at least?

1) New expensive adsorption refrigerator. Are the new refrigerators substantially better than my 2000 model?
2) New cooling unit for my refrigerator. I am competent enough to do this repair myself.
3) New 120v AC only refrigerator. I hate to lose the option to use gas, but the truth is it's hardly ever used. I usually only have the gas on when I'm on the highway. What are popular models to retrofit?

Thanks in advance.

Phillip, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. Sorry to hear of the cooling unit issue. You will have a harder time selling or trading in at a good value without an ammonia water absorption refrigerator. I would recommend you install a new cooling unit if you are able. If you decide to put in a household unit you will want to get one that physically fit the hole.
