I was looking for a route to get to Montana from the Northeast of US. Looking at the map I see a way - 91 north into Canada to Montreal, west to Ottawa and go along rt 17 skirting the great lakes to the north until
A: )
Sault Sainte Marie and then back to the us and westward on route 2

B: ) Over untl route 71 just before Manitoba and coming back into the US in MN

I don't have tow brakes on the toad yet and according to the canadian regulations I would be under the required weight for Ontario but I would not be allowed in Manitoba which is why I was looking to go south before Winnipeg.
Also do I need an extra insurance card from my insruance company to travel into canada?

Are the roads pretty good up in Ontario and are there enogh gas stations and campgrounds on 17?

Dan is correct, fuel is really expensive in Canada. If you can get there with one tank of fuel, your choice "A" is a good choice. The roads are fine. Fuel is readily available. Can't comment on the CG availability on Rt 17. When coming back to the states, consider spending some time and tour the SOO locks. Then go to Mackanac for a couple of days.
