Does anyone have some input about this old route? Experiences good or not so good. We found the route(0ld route 80) in the book "Road Trip USA" and at this website.

We plan a mid September trip from Columbus,Ga to Santa Fe NM using some of this old highway. Time is not an issue, sight seeing is.

I've run it from AL I-85 west of Columbus, GA to GA I-16 west of I-95. It was an enjoyable drive then. That was in one of my previous "wife-times" so it has been over 15 years ago since I have driven it, and then in a car. I don't remember anything that would give your RV a problem.

Much of your route is along the Interstate system when you get into Texas as it incorporates much of the "Old 80" as part of the interstate.
I can help you from Greenville Texas to Phoenix Arizona. Pick up US HWY 380 in Greenville, TX and follow it to its end at Interstate 25 in New Mexico. Go North on I-25 a few miles to Socorro, New Mexico and pick up US HWY 60 to Phoenix. From Greenville, TX to Graham, TX is a lot of small towns and stop and go type of driving, but not bad. From Graham, TX to Roswell, NM is very easy driving and mostly farming Scenery. Be sure and eat steaks at the CATTLE BARON RESTAURANT in Roswell- a meal you won't forget! From Roswell on into Phoenix is excellent highway and the scenery is breath taking. You will not forget the trip from Showlow, AZ through GLOBE and into Apache Junction. Take Interstate 10 in Phoenix to Quartzsite, AZ and go south on 95 to Yuma. It is a straight shot from Yuma into San Diego. If you go from Roswell toward El Paso, you will have some fairly good scenery into Las Cruces, NM. The climb up San Agustin Pass (just before you get to Las Cruces) is a long slow grade up the mountain, but the view from the top is great! From Las Cruces to just past Lordsburg, NM where you once again will pick up US HWY 80 is just flat desert. From there to Benson, AZ (Through Douglas and Bisbee is some very nice scenery, but nothing like the northern US HWY 60 route.
