I have a question I hope some here can help me with. We tow a 2004 Fleetwood Sequoia popup with a 2004 Expedition. Tows great, etc. The problem is when leaving our driveway or coming home from a trip and entering our driveway. The driveway leaves the road at a pretty steep angle, and the bumper/sand pads on the camper drag. My question is this: can the axles be "flipped" to gain height so this is at least minimized? How would it affect stability when towing if I also put a "riser" hitch in my receiver?

We were considering trading for a Trail-Manor or other lightweight hybrid in the future, but if I can't resolve this issue (short of selling our house and moving) then I guess we'll keep what we've got and just live with it.

Keeping the trailer at a storage lot isn't an option - been there, done that with a 'fiver - what a pain every time you want to go camping.

Not knowing all the details or a look at the area is hard to suggest something. As far as flipping the Axel it is possible. I was quoted $200.00 to flip our Bayside.

Another thought would be maybe putting some 2x4 s in the gutter to ease the drop off, again with out seeing the curb it's hard to suggest. Our toy hauler sits a lot higher then the pop up did, so maybe letting the wife take it out slow to see how much you need to raise would help. Let us know.

Thanks, Jim. The incline is pretty steep as the driveway leaves the road, and the road is pretty heavily travelled so taking the time to place 2x4s isn't really an option. As far as the amount to raise, I know that when the rear of the camper is dragging the most, I can look in the side mirrors and the tires are barely touching pavement.

I think flipping the axle would give me enough lift - that's about 4", correct? And in order to keep the rig level when towing, I would need a riser for the hitch?

Check out popupexplorer dot com. (Hopefully this won't get yanked.) You'll see more folks over there that have actually done this. Yes, it is possible and has been done many many times. You really need to talk to a few folks who have done it, because it will bring up other issues that you'll never think of untill you've done it.

Bob, besides the tongue don't forget about both the stabilzers and door step. Both of them also rise the 4" as well.
For any one thinking about "flipping the axle" you don't actually reverse the axle. You simply replace the spring perches so the axle rests under the springs instead of on top. Dexter makes a spring perch replacement to move the axle under the spring.
