I guess it's just always there and I never bother with it. In Ontario, trailer plates never expire so I have no reason to keep track of it. Well, when I got to the campground this weekend, I noticed something missing from the back of the trailer. Then realized the licence plate was missing. I'm not even sure it it was there when I left.
I've now added "check for trailer plate" on my prep list along with chains, lights, locks, etc. After visiting the police station today to report it missing, and standing in the long line at the licence renewal place, I now have a new plate. We have to re-register our popup every year. We get a sticker in the mail with the last two digits of the year on it. Then we have to have the popup inspected and the garage has to apply the new sticker onto the plate. So, at least once a year we look to see if the plate is still there!

Pennsylvania's registration sticker goes on our plates and a lot of the less desirables have determined that it is easier to cut a sticker off of someone elses plate than to get insurance and register their own.
When I say cut I do mean they will cut away part of your plate and glue it to their own. There was someone in my mother's condo parking lot who had 1/8 of their plate missing (including first letter) for over a year. Don't know if the police noticed it for her. It really stinks since then you are stuck with a $5 plate replacment fee. And if you have a vanity plate you have to pay for a standard issue plate while they make up a new one as long as they get most of your old plate back. Yet another fee. Since I back my trailer into the driveway I have to see its rear when I walk up to it and check the plate's condition. -- Mark 2002 Coleman Sedona 1997 Pontiac Trans Sport Our Coleman Sedona |

We have a choice in Virginia, pay by the year (I think it's $22) or pay for a permanent tag ($50)... I don't really check it though, only one I've ever lost was the paper Temp Tag that the dealer gave me when the trailer was new.

While we were staying long term in a campground, we noticed another long-term cmper was missing the tag. I just happen to mention it to the owner...seems the tag had been stolen over a very busy weekend! After that I simply took my tag off until we needed to move the camper.

Guess I'm lucky here in Kansas....
My trailer is under 2000 lbs (1987 actually!!) so I don't have to tag it! I did put the generic "KANSAS UNDER 2M" tag on it so I don't run into problems going to other states.... Scott, Christy, and Kids (3) 2001 Grand Caravan Sport 2002 Coachman Clipper 128 |

Hi Rob;
In addition to the camper, I pull a utility trailer and I sometimes get off road with it. Well, a few years ago I was hauling flat rocks for our driveway. I ripped off the licence plate holder at a blasting site. The next weekend I spotted a plate in the rubble. It kinda looked new, so a grabbed it and through it in the Blazer. You guessed it, it was my own plate. The plate now hangs on the garage wall with my old licence plate collection. My best; Dave `89 Coleman Shenandoah `96 Van / `85 Beater Blazer House Springs Mo. |

Well on a trip to Prarie Cove state park near Rogers Arkansas I know the plate was on the P/U when we left but when the ranger went to check to write it down on the registration he asked if the trailer was new as there was no tag on it and he knows Missouri requires tags. Well so much for my three year tag next one I put on made some mods seems the plastic that they use on them got brittle and broke off somewhere between my home and the campground gee less than a 75 miles go figure.
